Friday, May 10 – Conference

"How Great Teams and Organizations Pull Together" - Heath Slawner

Friday May 10, 2019
Presented by Heath Slawner, one of Simon Sinek’s “Start With Why” Ignitors. Some organizations have cultures where their people are able to trust each other so deeply that they would literally put their lives on the line for each other. Other cultures, no matter what incentives are offered, are doomed to infighting, fragmentation and failure. Why? This keynote draws on Simon Sinek’s two books, “Start With Why” and “Leaders Eat Last.” Understand the reason simply knowing or believing the Why is not enough. Once people are united by a common cause, there must be a strong culture that keeps them together. The result is a positive impact for everyone involved. The result is deeply loyal colleagues who will stop at nothing to advance their vision and their organization’s interests.

ProjectCon Dave West

"Mind the Gap - The Tension Between Job Titles and Agility" - Dave West

Friday May 10, 2019
Presented by Dave West, CEO of Scrum.org. There is no mistaking it. The last 10 years has seen a fundamental shift in how we shop, consume news, even communicate with our friends and family. We have entered the Digital Age where the economics, systems and structures are different. Traditional organizations are trying to keep up and evolve to better serve this new age. The evolution to become more agile is not easy. The resulting tension manifests itself in many forms including confusion of job title and disconnected processes as organization run a hybrid agile and traditional organization. Some days this works, some days it doesn’t. Ideas such as self-organization, empowerment coupled with empirical process and customer centricity strike at the heart of job titles that were designed in a world of parental management, specialism of labor and resource management. How do you survive and thrive in this messy world? What does it mean for your job title and skills?

Can't We All Just Get Along? - Laura Barnard & Jesse Fewell

Friday May 10, 2019
How to get past the project methodology wars and Get. It. Done. Are you tired of project management bickering? Confused by all the fancy methodologies and the three-letter certifications? Want to get past the “my way or the highway” policy around projects? You are not alone. From Six Sigma to Scrum, from PMBOK to Prince2, from Kaizen to Kanban, it turns out we have lot more in common than not. Across the world of work, project leaders want simply to achieve business goals with as high as a business impact as possible. In this entertaining keynote, project management pioneers Laura Barnard and Jesse Fewell will sift past the buzzwords and project jargon to highlight the philosophical differences many approaches have. At times hilarious, and other times reflective, this talk will then reveal how our quirks and stereotypes as project leaders hide deeper truths we all hold dear.

"Agile PMO" - Jesse Fewell & Laura Barnard

Friday May 10, 2019
Now that agile methods are here to stay, executives are looking to PMO leaders for answers to fundamental questions: What is the agile movement all about? When does it fit for a given project, and when does it not? Even more puzzling, if agile methods encourage self-organizing teams, then how does that impact the role of a PMO, or even the role of the project manager itself? In this eye-opening session, we will sift out fact from fiction and walk away with actionable tips for evolving your PMO to support agile methods.

"Leading in an Agile World" - Ryan Ripley

Friday May 10, 2019
Do you want to grow your organization’s ability to respond to market opportunities, competitive pressures, or opportunities for innovation? Then join Ryan Ripley as he explores how leadership in an agile world has sparked a change in the way we show up as leaders and manages in our organization. We’ll discuss how leaders enable agile to thrive and grow, while keeping a laser focus on delivering value to customers and stakeholders. Ryan will address your questions and give you practical tips and ideas that you can start using tomorrow. Join us and learn what Professional Agile Leadership means to you and your organization.
