Breaking Bad Scrum May Require Breaking Bad Leadership
"Breaking Bad Scrum May Require Breaking Bad Leadership" Summary: Dozens of books address the mechanics and theory behind Scrum. Even more books address the mechanics and theory behind Leadership. Few address both. These books are great. But they offer little guidance to those who work on Scrum teams and are neck-deep in organizational dysfunction—and have no idea what to do next. This is when a team is most vulnerable and likely to slip back into old practices—including bad Scrum, and bad leadership. Ryan Ripley and Jessica Soroky help break this cycle by taking you through the common anti-patterns that emerge when theoretical Scrum is implemented in complex organizations. This is only made worse when teams and organization lack the necessary leadership to get through it. Ryan and Jessica explore why these things happen, and what we can do to “inspect and adapt” our way back to a healthy Scrum practice. At the center of these tips, ideas and lessons learned are a combination of the values we have as leaders and the values we uphold as agilists – Commitment, Responsibility, Focus, Choice, Openness, Respect, and Courage. Don’t worry about choosing which session to go to – this session will answer all your questions across the domains of scrum and leadership. Bad scrum rarely comes with perfect leadership, repairing these practices starts with embracing the values behind them both. Learn how to leverage scrum and leadership values to take your teams to the next level.
